Nukus is the capital of the Karakalpak Autonomous Republic within Uzbekistan, located in the north-west of Uzbekistan.
For tourists, Nukus is interesting primarily for its State Museum of Art. Savitsky with the world's 2nd largest collection of paintings by Russian and Soviet avant–garde artists, a magnificent historical and ethnographic collection of the Karakalpak region. You will also visit the most ancient necropolis of Uzbekistan, Mizdakhkan, and the ruins of the ancient fortress of Giaur-kala. If you are not too tired, then, if desired, you can visit the Zaroastrian dahma Chylpyk (Shylpyk).
