Torysh is a natural area on the Mangyshlak Peninsula in western Kazakhstan, about 120 km from the regional capital – the city of Aktau.
It is the calling card of Mangystau – an amazing place where thousands of round stone formations are scattered across a small area. Some of these stone balls are more than 3 meters wide.
The age of these round stones is between 40 and 60 million years. Scientists still don’t agree on how these giant formations were created.
Some of the balls have cracked in half, showing their inner core. Some have merged together, many are covered in deep cracks, and some still look solid and whole.
There are only a few places like this in the world, but none with so many and such large stone balls. That’s why a visit to the Torysh Valley will surely stay in tourists’ memories – like seeing the eighth or tenth wonder of the world.
