The little village of Darshai is situated 20 km from Namanguti. Darshai is identical to all other villages in the Vakhan Valley.
The village is located at the confluence of the Panj with a small river called the Darai Darshai flowing in a deep gorge. From the road you can go up the right wall of the canyon to reach ruins of a small ancient fortress. The fortress was distinguished by an ideal position, from which it was easy to control an old caravan route.
A mountain path begins in the gorge and leads to Mayakovsky Peak (6,095 m), one of the dominating summits in the area. The distance between the road and the mountain is two days on foot.
