An exciting one-day trip with light hiking to one of the most picturesque mountain lakes in Tajikistan — Lake Timur-Dara. The lake is part of the Shirkent National Park and is located in the Shahrinav District of Tajikistan, 80 km from Dushanbe, at an altitude of about 1,970 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by high mountains, juniper forests, and shrubs. The lake is fed by flowing water and was formed by a tectonic landslide. It is up to 500 meters long, 170 meters wide, and 15 meters deep. The water is crystal-clear turquoise.

Dushanbe - Hiking to Temur Dara Lake - Dushanbe
09:00 – Departure from your hotel. Drive along the Dushanbe–Termez highway to the village of Shahrinav, then continue on a dirt road along the fast-flowing Karatag River to the village of Hakimi (75 km). Photo stops at scenic viewpoints along the way.
11:00 – Start of the hike (3.5 km one way, +370 m elevation gain, 1.5–2 hours of leisurely walking with photo stops). The well-marked trail begins on the left bank of the Karatag River and climbs steeply to a plateau with juniper forest and alpine meadows. It then gently ascends over a rocky dam that formed the lake. A stunning view of the crystal-clear turquoise lake opens up. After walking another 500 meters along the left bank, enjoying the lake and surrounding views, we reach the river mouth that feeds the lake.
13:00 – Picnic on a scenic meadow. The bravest can take a dip in the cold, refreshing waters of the lake.
15:00 – After enjoying the views and peaceful atmosphere, we descend back to the vehicle and return to Dushanbe.
19:00 – Arrival at the hotel.
