This short but adventure-filled tour will introduce you not only to the legendary Lake Iskanderkul and its surroundings, but also to the unusual Karakul River Valley — a rare landscape for Tajikistan. In a wide intermountain valley, surrounded on both sides by towering peaks, lies a truly “fairy tale” mixed forest (juniper, birch, poplar, maple, willow) with giant trees and shrubs, green meadows, and alpine wildflowers. A narrow trail winds between the trees along a full-flowing river, climbs the mountain slopes, and descends back to the water. We’ll make a 12 km circular hike and return to the village of Sarytag, where lunch will be waiting for us. After lunch, we drive back to Dushanbe.

DUSHANBE – Lake ISKANDERKUL – Village SARYTAG (160 km)
Morning meeting at your hotel with the guide and driver. Brief introduction. Drive to Lake Iskanderkul via the Varzob Gorge, then through the Anzob Tunnel and the Yagnob River Valley. Along the way — winding mountain roads with scenic views of highland ridges. Travel time: approx. 3–3.5 hours. Upon arrival at Iskanderkul — lunch on the lakeshore.
Lake Iskanderkul is the largest in the Fann Mountains and one of the most beautiful in Tajikistan, located at 2,200 meters above sea level. The lake covers 3.5 sq. km and reaches a depth of 72 meters. It is surrounded by mountain peaks rising more than a kilometer above the water.
After lunch, we’ll walk to a viewpoint above the waterfall, where the Iskandardarya River flows out of the lake and drops into a deep canyon from a height of 24 meters — a breathtaking sight known as the “Niagara of the Fanns.” We’ll also visit the small, picturesque “Snake Lake.” After hiking, we transfer to the village of Sarytag at the foot of the massive Kyrk Shaitan Mountain (“Forty Devils”). Rest, dinner, and overnight at a guesthouse.

Hiking in the Karakul River Valley – SARYTAG – DUSHANBE
After breakfast, we set out on a hike through the Karakul River Valley. This paradise-like valley — a stunning oasis in the barren mountains — is unusual for the Pamir-Alay range. The trail winds among giant trees along the Karakul and Sarytag rivers and their tributaries, Zambar and Dugdon. The valley has a special microclimate, so the summer heat is barely felt. The scenery and panoramic views are truly spectacular.
The route is circular, 12 km long, with an elevation change of ±600 meters. Duration: 5–6 hours. Lunch — picnic on a forest clearing by the river. After lunch, return to Dushanbe (170 km, approx. 3.5–4 hours).
