An engaging and delightful excursion in the foothills of the Chatkal Range—part of the Southwestern Tien Shan—a region renowned for its extensive vineyards and fruit orchards. The trip includes a visit to the famous "Physics-Sun" (Helio-complex) research facility, as well as the forested areas near the exotic mountain village of Sukok.
 
The route is not classified as a technical or challenging trek and is accessible to any hiker in good physical condition. While the weather during the hike is typically stable, warm, and sunny, precipitation or wind is possible. Daytime temperatures range from 10°C to 30°C, depending on the altitude. The daily trek covers 8 km, with a maximum elevation gain of 200 meters and a peak altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level.
The group will be accompanied by a mountain guide.
 
The mountain guide acts as the group leader and the company’s authorized representative throughout the journey. The guide reserves the right to alter the route if weather conditions or other factors pose a risk to the safety of the participants.
 
Each participant should bring: warm clothing, comfortable trekking footwear, waterproof and windproof outerwear, sunscreen, sunglasses, and headwear (such as a sun hat, cap, or beanie).
 
The active portion of the trip lasts 4.5–5 hours; the total duration, including travel time, is 8–9 hours.

Hiking

The tour begins with a transfer from Tashkent to the Parkent District, specifically to the "Physics-Sun" (Fizika-Solntse) helio-complex in the village of Changi.
 
The "Physics-Sun" helio-complex is located in the Parkent District of the Tashkent Region, 50 km northeast of Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent. Built in the 1980s, the complex remains striking today with its fantastic, "cosmic" appearance—resembling either a launch pad or an extraterrestrial station. It sits on a rocky elevation at an altitude of 1,100 meters above sea level, nestled in the picturesque foothills of the Southwestern Tien Shan mountains.
 
Following an engaging tour, we will travel to the nearby village of Sukok (10 km, a 20-minute drive).
 
Adjacent to the village of Sukok lies an extensive forest area managed by the "Chatkal Mountain-Land Reclamation Experimental Station"—part of the Shreder Research Institute—which is home to a vast number of trees. This man-made forest was planted long ago, and staff continue to plant new saplings and protect this natural site. A dirt road leads through the forest, which is dominated by Crimean pines. In the heart of the woods, there are several small houses used by the station’s staff. The trail gradually ascends to a ridgeline, where you can take a break in the shade of a small apricot grove. After lunch, you can take a walk to the so-called "Singing Cave."
 
The cave is a small opening located within the riverbed of a right-bank tributary of the Sukoksay stream. The cave is quite small; if you lean in and peer inside, you can hear the sound of water churning deep underground. A few meters further down lies a water intake point, where this subterranean water bursts forth to the surface. From here, the route continues toward the next section of the forest. You will need to climb slightly and then traverse a path that skirts around two small ridges. This area is dominated by the same Crimean pine trees, alongside a variety of other plants not typically found in this region.
 
Following the visit to the cave and the forest area, there will be time for a break. Those who wish can take a short walk further up the ridge, crossing a small rocky stretch that reveals expansive views of the Sukok mountains. A bit further north, on one of the ridges, lies another "apricot grove" (known locally as an "uryuk" grove).
 
The return journey to the village of Sukok follows the same route. At the start, the group will pass once more through the extensive grounds of the Chatkal Mountain Land-Improvement Experimental Station—part of the Shreder Research Institute—where the forest takes on entirely different hues in the light of the evening sun. Upon leaving the station, you enter the village of Sukok, where you can observe the evening life of the settlement, with its unique local character and ethnographic charm: adobe houses, farm animals, women washing laundry in the river, and children playing in the narrow streets.
 
At the end of the trek, a weary traveler—enticed by the aroma of *shashlik* (barbecued meat)—will surely want to stop at a local *chaikhana* (teahouse) to sample some traditional national dishes.
 
Afterward, the group will depart for Tashkent (60 km, 1-hour drive).
