The Gijduvan Museum of Ceramics is a fascinating museum that houses an extensive collection of ceramic products, for which the people of Uzbekistan are so renowned. It is in the city of Gijduvan, located in the Bukhara region, that an entire school of ceramic art was established. Its distinguishing features are the use of geometric ornaments and floral patterns in the decoration of ceramic pieces.
The museum was founded by Ibodullo Narzullaev, one of Uzbekistan's most famous ceramic artists and the founder of the Gijduvan School of Ceramics. He took part in more than 50 international exhibitions, and his works are displayed in museums around the world. Usta (meaning "master" in Uzbek) Ibadullo not only created his own individual style, but also passed his craftsmanship on to his sons, Alisher and Abdullo, and his daughter, Nodira.
A characteristic feature of the Gijduvan School of Ceramics is an abundance of pots and small jars, as well as lids crafted for every vessel, designed to maintain the temperature of the served dish. The museum displays pieces where the primary tones of the painting are warm, golden-green colors. Another distinctive trait is the floral pattern along the rim of the item, along with a clearly identifiable top and bottom of the design—representing "sky" and "earth."
